A Portrait of Christmas

The snow flutters down obliterating the world's sin in a blanket of white.
Dry stalks sway and bend in the wind as if mourning the departed flowers.
The spruce and hemlock done their December mantles.
Creatures hurry home not wanting to be caught out after dark.
Mice scamper across the snow leaving feather like marks that soon vanish in the flurry.
Night settles in,
but still the snow continues to fall,
piling into drifts on meadow and hill.
Inside is a whole new world.
Christmas trees glow,
spirits are high with the anticipation of presents,
and everyone has a smile.
The lights are turned down low as the family gathers to read the Christmas story.
