Dishes

Since moving to KY we have been, to our relief and sadness (at least on my part),
in possession of a dish washer. Everyone else in my family seems to find this wonderful.
But I kind of miss washing the dishes by hand.
One person washing, one person drying and the wonderful opportunity to sing together. I’ve always like doing dishes, I like the chance to think without having to focus to hard on what my hands are doing.

I love looking out the window above the kitchen sink to were the bird feeder is and watching the different birds come. Chickadees and Cardinals. Splotches of red and brown against the green pine tree.
A couple of days ago our “wonderful” dishwasher broke. Dad spent hours trying to find out what was wrong with it and fix it. He surfed the web trying to find out how to fix our brand of washer but finely he gave up and called a fixer man and scheduled a day for him to come. Since that day we’ve been washing our dishes by hand again. And I can tell you I don’t mind it at all. I’ve done the dishes three times today and it’s calmed me actually.
Tomorrow the fixer man will come and we’ll be back to just loading up the dishwasher. My family will sigh and be glad that it’s fixed. But I’ll be kind of sad wishing for the time without dishwashers, cars or electricity. Wishing for the time when things were calm and simple.

  1. Even though I'm not a big fan of doing the dishes, I often times find myself wishing for a simpler life. Especially with no cars. I want to live somewhere where I can't hear cars passing by or the sounds of the highway.
